Looking for ways to kick up your pen pal skills?

I don’t know about you, but I’m always trying to think of new ways to up my pen pal game. I love sending something that impresses or excites my pen pals. There’s nothing better than hearing my mail made their day. So I feel as if I’m always searching for new inspiration.

Etsy.com always seems to deliver when it comes to cool ideas for greeting cards, stationary, etc. and this time when searching I actually ran across something quite interesting! A pen pal zine pack. A zine is like a mini magazine. This set came with some interesting writing ideas such as “50 Questions to Ask Your Pen Pal.”

Another thing that caught my attention in “How to Find a Pen Pal,” one of her suggestions is to write a prisoner. Great idea! πŸ™‚ Some people think of writing a prisoner to be taboo. Honestly you’d be surprised how many good people are actually behind bars. Over the years my prison pen pals have become close friends and they’re so appreciative of any and all mail they receive. It really makes you feel good to know you made someone’s day.

If you ever thought of writing a prisoner, now’s a great time! Browse penacon.com and you can actually send your first message via our online “e-mail” system…or if you’re a total pen pal nut (like me) you can write them the old fashioned way and actually put some creativity into it. Just remember, prisons have MANY rules. So if you’re thinking of sending a card (or something out of the ordinary) check the facility’s website for rules. Some states are pretty lenient, however theres some (like Michigan for instance) that won’t even allow something to be colored with markers. πŸ™ So unless it’s just paper with a note written in ink you may want to double check.

If you’re interested in checking out the zine pack mentioned above visit Quietly Written’s Etsy shop. The author also has a blog/website.
